Abstract

The Institute for Energy Efficiency at UC Santa Barbara invites you to attend our 2024 Emerging Technologies Review. This year, the workshop will be organized with OpenFarm to dive into Climate Risks and Smart Food Systems on Wednesday, November 20th. Please save the date and register below.

To confront the climate risks, the California Legislature passed Senate Bill 253 (Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act) and Senate Bill 261 (Climate Related Financial Risk Act). The farming sector has been a forefront of dealing with water related risks with the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act in the last ten years. Food processors have also dealt with increasing grid power shutoffs and are managing several energy sources and loads to grow while reducing their carbon footprint.

Agriculture is one of the top exporting sectors in California and in the USA. This workshop will bring together leading growers and food processors along with technology innovators and state policymakers a to address challenges in securing water for future generations and transitioning to more sustainable sources of energy in rural areas. We will discuss the policy and technological innovations necessary to meet California's climate goals and business needs to support the economic vitality of an essential sector.
