UCSB Professor of Computer Science Timothy Sherwood Appointed Dean of the College of Creative Studies (CCS)
The UC Santa Barbara College of Creative Studies (CCS) is excited to announce the appointment of Timothy Sherwood, Professor of Computer Science and Fellow of the ACM and IEEE, as the new CCS Dean. Chancellor Henry T. Yang made the announcement to the UC Santa Barbara community on December 10, 2024.
Chancellor Yang said of Dean Sherwood: “In the more than two decades that Professor Sherwood has been at UC Santa Barbara, he has established an outstanding record of service to our campus community…”
Professor Sherwood brings to CCS a wide range of campus experience, having served previously as the UCSB Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, as a member of the Academic Senate Executive Council, and having won both the University’s Distinguished Teaching Award (2012) and Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award (2021). Most recently, he served for two years as the Interim Dean of the College of Creative Studies where he focused on adding new faculty, building connectivity and community upon the return to campus from COVID-19, finalizing the launch of the College’s 9th major in Marine Science, deepening academic ties across campus, revitalizing College common spaces, and supporting Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) scholars and the annual CCS Research and Creative Activities Conference (RACA-CON), amongst many other responsibilities.
In addition to his decanal duties, Dean Sherwood can be found helping to lead the UCSB ArchLab with co-director Jonathan Balkind, exploring unexpected new ways to organize computer systems for security, energy efficiency, sustainability, agility, and performance. Whether you see him wandering the halls of the College, sleeves rolled up in the lab, or playing croquet on the CCS lawn with students and staff, we invite you to stop by and introduce yourself to our new dean.
Please join CCS faculty, students, and staff in officially welcoming Dean Sherwood!
