Professor Martin Moskovits receives ACS award in Physical Chemistry
Institute faculty member Professor Martin Moskovits received the 2019 E. Bright Wilson Award presented by the Division of Physical Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The E. Bright Wilson Award is an ACS National Award to recognize outstanding accomplishments in fundamental or applied spectroscopy in chemistry.
Prof. Moskovits has been recognized for proposing the plasmonic mechanism for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy. That explanation ultimately led to the larger field of research in Plasmonics, which, in part, has been applied to the application of solar energy to the photosynthesis of CO2 and water (as well as other abundant natural chemical precursors) to fuels and valuable chemicals such as formic acid, CO and methanol. His group is pursuing this field of research at UCSB among many other groups globally. Prof. Moskovits noted that "the early phases of this research was enabled by funding from the Institute for Energy Efficiency, for which we're grateful."
He will be honored and deliver an award address at the upcoming spring awards symposium of the ACS Division of Physical Chemistry on April 2, 2019.
