Summit Speaker: Walter Yuen
Professor, Mechanical Engineering
University of California, Santa Barbara
Professor Walter Yuen received his Bachelor degree in Physics and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. He is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UCSB, and has been with the University since 1977. In July 1, 2010, he will retire from UCSB and take on the position of Vice President, Academic Development at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Professor Yuen’s research interest is in the area of thermal science and heat transfer. He is an expert on thermal radiation heat transfer and in recent years, has focused his interest on building energy research and fire safety. In Hong Kong, energy consumption within commercial and residential high-rise buildings accounts for more than 60% of the total energy consumption. Research to improve the energy efficiency of high rise residential and commercial buildings is thus of particular interest to the Hong Kong building industry and research community. Professor Yuen and his colleagues at Hong Kong Polytechnic University will be working actively in the area.
