The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NiCT) at Kyoto University has developed a novel approach for the integration of information, communication and power engineering in residential homes. The goals of the project were to unify the transmission of information and power for power distribution and to increase the switching frequencies of power converters as communication carriers. For this purpose, they developed the novel concept of the power packet and router.
