Cisco Systems has been focusing on building energy efficiency in order to eliminate waste and inefficiency. A significant portion of the energy consumed by buildings is wasted, especially when used to power HVAC systems. Cisco is using the Energy Internet to bring various building systems and protocols into an open environment. The goal is to optimize and manage building performance with automated systems that are secure. The company works with large organizations, such as HSBC and Walgreens, as well as the U.S. military.
