SunPower, an American company based in northern California, produces crystalline silicon solar photovoltaics (PV) at a rate of 550 MW annually. The company trades on the Nasdaq, generates annual revenues of $1.5 billion and is growing at a rate of 50% per year. SunPower's solar cells boast an efficiency of 22%-23% - the highest in the solar PV market. This is due in part to a unique design; the gridlines are on the back of the cells. SunPower provides entire solar PV systems to utilities and other large-scale commercial entities. The company also sells to the residential sector, and, in this sense, has made progress in making solar more aesthetic.
