New Ideas in Energy Efficiency

Global warming should be more accurately called "Global Climatic Disruption" because it is taking place rapidly and in a non-uniform manner, and because it is mainly caused by human beings. Greenhouse gas concentrations and global average temperatures have increased rapidly during the industrial era, and U.S. per capita electricity consumption is at a staggering level relative to the rest of the world. We must become more efficient for many reasons. Through applied research in materials, solar cells, buildings and design, lighting solutions and computing, UCSB's Institute for Energy Efficiency is leading the way in energy efficiency.
