The IEE Excellence in Research Graduate Fellowship recognizes cutting-edge research in sustainability and/or energy efficiency. This award provides $22,500 to the fellowship recipient for use during one academic year. The selected fellow MUST use fellowship funds for 1 quarter of full support (tuition/fees, stipend). Beyond that 1 quarter, there will be additional funds remaining that can be used as partial support for the fellow to cover additional stipend/tuition/fee costs. This award cannot be used for travel or supply expenses.  

The goal of the Institute is to name one PhD-level graduate student per academic year. Additional fellowship benefits include participation in select Institute events, including meetings with select visiting speakers. It is required that fellow give a short presentation of their work during the academic year, and submit a final 4-5 page report within 30 days following the fellowship period.

Awardees are selected by a committee comprised of the Solutions Group Heads, Institute Director, and Associate Director.

Nominations can be submitted by either Institute faculty or students. Self-nominations are welcome.

Application materials include: CV, letters of recommendation (optional), description of research & its relation to energy efficiency and/or sustainability.

Eligibility criteria: 

1. Continuing graduate student in P1 or P2 status (P3 class level students are not eligible).
2. Maintain good academic standing (students not in good academic standing because their cumulative GPA is below 3.0, they have excessive units of unfinished coursework (12 or more units of Incomplete, No Grade, or No Record)), or are not meeting departmental standards of scholarship, may not hold centrally administered fellowships.
3. Maintain good academic progress (students must meet time-to-degree standards for advancement to candidacy and degree completion)
