Researchers at the University of Houston, Technical University of Berlin in Germany, and the Department of Energy's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory have developed a new catalyst for fuel cells five times as efficient as regular platinum.

A new fuel cell designed by scientists at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has components that are modeled after the bronchial system in lungs. The fuel cell shows a significant improvement in terms of efficiency and also requires less of the cost-prohibitive platinum catalyst.
