Installing feed-in tariffs for solar power, where small-scale solar producers can sell their power back to the grid, is gaining popularity in US cities. The policy, accepted by Germany more than a decade ago, has turned the country into a solar powerhouse.

With a feed-in tariff solar energy policy, Germany has become the global leader in the implementation of solar energy. The country, which does does not have a climate ideally suited for solar power, has shown that what matters more than the solar climate is the government's energy policy.
