Researchers at the University of Washington have devised a way to reduce the amount of power wireless sensors use to transmit data by using the electrical wiring in a building's walls as an antenna that propagates the signal. The technology extends both the range and the battery life of the sensor.

Yahho's new data center in Lockport, NY.
The design of Yahoo's new data center was inspired by a chicken coop. Its unique structure helps the center achieve a power-use effectiveness ratio of 1.08; only 8 percent of the power consumed goes to lights and operational equipment and less than 1 percent of the power gets consumed in cooling.
