Dutch start-up Lemnis Lighting announced it is going to begin selling it's residential 5-watt LED light bulb, that produces the equivalent light of a 60-watt incandescent bulb and saves an estimated $280 over it's 25 year lifespan.

Philips Electronics announced its plans to pursue the Department of Energy's L Prize, an award to the first company that can create an an energy efficient, commercially-scalable incandescent light bulb. The L prize awards $10 million and potentially lucrative federal purchasing agreements.
