Researchers at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), have produced a blue-emitting semi-polar laser that is claimed to deliver a similar level of performance to state-of-the-art, conventional equivalents.

At the Light Fair conference, General Electric introduced a LED light bulb that "breathes." The companies, GE and Nuventix, developed "synthetic jet cooling technology." This means that the LED has a diaphragm embedded in the bulb that vibrates and helps keep the bulb cool.
