GE jet engine LED bulb
General Electric is reducing the power consumption of its LED bulbs by using dual cool jets to lower the ambient temperature. The company says this technique increases the heat transfer rate by a factor of ten.

Americold storage
Digital Lumens' LED Lighting Systems--which save up to 90 percent of lighting energy--have been installed in Americold facilities in three states.The fixtures also reduce AC and chiller power consumption in cold storage warehouses by 20-40 percent by eliminating heat transfer to chilled food.

Power generation in the United States relies heavily on water for cooling (coal and nuclear) and energy production (hydro). The switch to renewable energy can drop water consumption by 40%. The Union of Concerned Scientists says that the switch isn't happening fast enough.

In an effort to reduce the cost of cooling microprocessor chips, data centers are looking to low-power chips used in cell phones and other mobile devices. These chips can generate energy savings, but they also have less processing power, so they may only be used in specific systems or applications.

Researchers at the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory have designed a new air conditioner that uses both evaporative cooling and a liquid desiccant to remove moisture. Engineers believe it could use up to 90% less energy than conventional air conditioners in humid areas.
