Although federal funding and incentives have been coming down the pipeline, the solar and green building industries have not yet taken off. In preperation for what is to come, schools are beginning to offer green building certification programs to address the future demand for workers.

The most efficient buildings are dense multipurpose structures like skyscrapers, which minimize material, heating, and cooling. Single-family suburban houses are inefficient since they need to be individually heated and cooled, and are spread out from the population, encouraging driving more.
