UC Santa Barbara's Institute for Energy Efficiency convened leading stakeholders from industry, government, standards organizations and academia for a highly interactive discussion on March 11 & 12, 2014 to shape and expedite the development of standards for GaN power electronics.

Powering the globe

Roundtable goal:

To understand the application space for GaN power electronics, and use that understanding to establish a conceptual framework for the development of:

1) Device performance technical standards to enable effective utilization of GaN in power electronic circuit applications;

2) Modified system performance standards for applications that might be enhanced by GaN technologies; and

3) Power electronic equipment efficiency standards (regulations) to encourage adoption of GaN technologies to exploit energy efficiency advantages.

This framework was developed for the purpose of guiding SDOs and SSOs in the development of standards, and federal and state agencies in their regulatory considerations.
