Increasing energy efficiency and thereby reducing energy consumption is a key to solving the global energy crisis; therefore, the innovations developed at the Institute have far reaching impact, ultimately serving the global community. Currently, much effort and expense is allocated to implementing existing technologies, but new technologies are essential to realize the majority of the opportunity for energy savings through energy efficiency. Much more research is needed on such technologies, and this research constitutes the core focus of the Institute for Energy Efficiency at UC Santa Barbara.
