Institute for Energy Efficiency Announces Graduate Student Fellowships

The Institute for Energy Efficiency announced today its first cohort of graduate student fellows, comprised of seven graduate students recruited from around the world to UC Santa Barbara:

·       Sudharsanan Srinivasan, Wiederhold Fellow (Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India)
·       Michael Georgescu (UC Santa Barbara, California)
·       Janarbek Matai (Information and Communications University, South Korea)
·       Mathew Laurent (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York)
·       Michael Cantore (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York)
 
Peter J. Frenkel Fellows
·       Susmit Biswas, Computing Solutions Group
·       Carl Neufeld, Electronics and Photonics Solutions Group
 
The Institute offered two types of fellowships for the 2009-2010 academic year, Institute for Energy Efficiency Fellowships and Peter J. Frankel Fellowships. The Institute for Energy Efficiency Fellowships help bring top graduate students to UC Santa Barbara. They are award to incoming PhD students, and provide a top-off stipend during the academic year and a full research stipend during the summer.  The Wiederhold Fellow is supported through the generosity of Melinda and Robert Wiederhold.  The Peter J. Frenkel Fellowships, named for the Institute for Energy Efficiency donor whose generosity made them possible, assist top-ranked senior PhD students working in on of the Institute’s six Solutions Groups.
