Wireless Protocols Vie for Smart Grid

On Wednesday, the Wi-Fi Alliance, a consortium of companies developing wireless technologies, released a white paper detailing the benefits of Wi-Fi as the standard of communication in smart grid solutions.
The idea behind the smart grid is to use digital technology to more discretely track electricity use, and provide this information to both users and utility companies with an eye toward more efficient delivery and consumption.
And as the digitally-enhanced grid expands, demand for the ability to wirelessly move data between all manner of smart appliances, control panels and other interfaces will inevitably grow.
