Carbon productivity has to be increased to maintain our lifestyle. There is a huge opportunity in efficiency in dollars per tons of carbon dioxide displaced savings. If the economy is in a recession, there is a big reduction in energy used and CO2 released. US energy demand has never declined, except in a recession. Electricity consumption per capita has remained flat since 1976, but with a large population growth meaning large energy efficiency gains.
