LED technologies not only give 80% energy savings, but are also cheaper, having a possible price reduction by a factor of 20 when compared to conventional lighting. Also, LED consumer lamps have no ultraviolet or infrared radiation and have a 45,000 hour lifespan. A major problem with LED is the lack of an LED substance with a blackbody at peak of eye efficiency. Due to the favorability of alternatives, the European Union has banned conventional incandescent lighting.
